    Vikings Voo-Doo Hexes Packers

    By Viking Visionary | December 23, 2008

    Packers choke vs Bears
Every Vikings fan who just watched the Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers to stay in the running for the NFC North title recognizes a familiar feeling - the sense that inexplicable forces are at work against the Vikings. Those forces even go so far as to put a hex on the Packers when a win by the Green and Gold would help the Vikings. Of course the Pack dominated the sorry Bears all game, and of course the Bears somehow kept in it through lucky bounces, bad officiating, and special teams magic. I can’t even write about the game without it making me sick. So I won’t. But don’t buy any of the media hype as they praise the “plucky Bears” and try to inflate their underdog story. The Bears are not a good team, and they don’t deserve to be in the playoff hunt. Their best offensive play is to chuck it down the field and hope Hester draws a pass interference penalty.

What does this mean for the Vikings? On the bright side, the Purple now have the opportunity to beat the defending world champs in the final game of the season and earn their way into the playoffs instead of on the backs of the Packers. I like our chances in the playoffs a lot better if we win a clutch game that we need, building crucial confidence. Also on the bright side, now the Bears are in striking distance of the Dallas Cowboys and the 6th seed. I mention this only because the only team I really don’t think the Vikings match up well against is the Cowboys. Give me the Bears, Bucs or Falcons in the first round any day. Heck, I like our chances against the Giants and the Panthers too. All these teams are built around the running game, and the Vikings have no problem stopping the run.

On the depressing side of things, there now exists a very real possibility that the Vikings get knocked out of the playoffs, a turn of events that would be absolutely crushing to the team and its fan base. All that needs happen for this to come to be is the Vikings loosing to the Giants (the Giants would be favored in this game if they play their starters) and the Bears beating the Texans (the Bears will be favored as well). And if this happens, everyone will think of week 16 when the Vikings gave the game away against the Falcons with 7 fumbles and the Packers giving the game to the Bears, missing two field goals that would have put it away and the Vikings in the playoffs.

All we can do is wait until Sunday and hope that the Vikings bring their A-game.
