    Vikings Starting to Fulfill Potential

    By Viking Visionary | November 3, 2008

In the first game played together by all three of the big-name free agents the Vikings brought in this offseason, the Purple started to look like the team many fans and analysts thought they would be, only minus Tarvaris Jackson.  On offense, Bernard Berrian went for over 100 yards and a touchdown.  Because he has been a threat since Gus took over, he seems to be opening up defenses for Adrian Peterson to gash.  Peterson went for 139 yards and a TD, 103 of those yards in the second half.  Sidney Rice and Visanthe Shiancoe both caught TDs, even though they did little else.  Frerotte looked pretty sharp, certainly good enough to drive this big purple bus.

On defense, Madieu Williams played well in his first game back from a neck injury, and intercepted a pass in the endzone.  Antione Winfield had a pick himself, and Chad Greenway forced a fumble that was recovered by Ben Leber.  Those turnovers were really the difference-makers in the game, but this Vikings defense is stacked with great players and is expected to take over games at points.  The D-line did very well, totalling 5 sacks, knocking a QB out of the game, and getting great pressure when it mattered.

I am a happy fan after this win that leaves the Vikings only a game behind the Bears in the division.  In one sense, the outlook from here is rosy: the Bears’ Kyle Orton is hurt, giving the Vikings a much better chance of climbing into the lead.  The offense seems to be clicking, the defense looks great, and special teams didn’t kill us.  On the not-so-bright side, the probable suspension of Kevin and Pat Williams is still looming, and no Vikings fan really wants to see what our defense will look like without the Williams Wall in the middle.  I just hope they get to play next week against the Packers!  Go Vikes!
